Types of Hearing Loss

Step one in improving your quality of life is determining the type of hearing loss causing your symptoms. Here are different types of hearing loss:

  1. Central Hearing Loss -  This type of hearing loss is caused by another condition or medical event. It can be caused by events such as a stroke or a central nervous system disease. â€‹

  2. Sensorineural Hearing Loss - This type of hearing loss can be helped with the use of hearing aids. It is caused by having missing or damaged hairs in the cochlea.

  3. Conductive Hearing Loss - Often this type of hearing loss is temporary and can be easily treated with a short procedure, possible surgery, and medication.

  4. Mixed Hearing Loss - Treatment of this type of hearing loss is most often hearing aids alone or a combination of hearing aids, medication, and a procedure or surgery. Mixed Hearing Loss is a combination of conductive and sensorineural hearing loss.
